Message from Academy Director
I grew up in Seattle, USA, graduated from UCLA and did an exchange program at Waseda University. While pursuing research in linguistics and education with the goal of entering a Ph.D. program, I initially planned to pursue a master’s degree at University College London. However, during my research on English education in Japan, I became keenly aware of the significant regional disparities and the rigid nature of the educational system. This realization led me to choose the path of entrepreneurship to drive educational reform.
Many students in Japan aspire to study abroad, yet I began questioning whether the Japanese education system truly equips them with the skills needed to succeed globally. In Japan’s credential-focused academic culture, students often lack opportunities to gain the practical experiences that top universities worldwide seek. Today, academic performance and standardized test scores alone are no longer sufficient to secure admission to prestigious institutions.
With this in mind, I made it my mission to create an environment that goes beyond English proficiency and test preparation. Instead, I wanted to provide students with opportunities for hands-on learning and equip them with essential skills such as critical thinking and research—competencies that are increasingly indispensable in the modern world.
At Enlite Academy, we offer a fully customized and flexible learning system tailored to each student’s unique interests and strengths. With a strong emphasis on research, our academy provides one-on-one instruction from world-class educators, including Ph.D. researchers and graduates from top universities. Together, we strive to empower students to step onto the global stage and achieve their dreams.
The Origin of the Name “Enlite Academy"
The name "Enlite" is derived from "The Enlightenment," the intellectual and cultural movement that spread across Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. Also known as "The Age of Reason," this period emphasized progress in science, philosophy, politics, economics, and society, with education at its core. It was an era marked by profound theoretical discussions, advocacy for individual freedom, criticism of established norms, and the pursuit of progress.
In the 21st century, while technology continues to advance at an unprecedented pace, we have witnessed a decline in the emphasis on theoretical and philosophical thinking, as well as a weakening of fundamental critical thinking skills. As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, the ability to think critically will become even more crucial. It is essential that the next generation—those who will shape the future—deepens its understanding of philosophy and theory while also honing its critical thinking abilities.
Furthermore, the "lite" in "Enlite" also alludes to "light." Just as the invention of the lightbulb revolutionized the world, we aim to help students refine their thinking and creativity so they can introduce new innovations and ideas to society. Additionally, the phrase "lightbulb moment" refers to a sudden moment of inspiration or realization. Through Enlite Academy, we aspire to provide students with countless moments of insight and discovery.
